About Me
I was born on June 6,1755 in Coventry Connecticut. I was the son of Richard Hale and Elizabeth. I was the sixth out of twelve children. My brother and I were within two years from each other which is why we were sent to Yale college together. I was among the 13 scholars of highet ranking in my class. i was interested in theaterical performances. i began my active life as a teacher in the public schools, and early in 1774 accepted my appointment as the teacher of the Union Grammar School. I was engaged in the year of 1774. The whole county was alive with the movements and disccussions which came to a crisis in the Battle of Lexington the next year. I though not of age enrolled in the militia and I volunteered for dangerous spy duty. It was a very dangerous job. My mission was to collect information about british battle plans on Long Island. I was caught behind British lines,I was tried and condemned to dealth. I was hung the next morning. My last words were,"I only regretthat I have but one life to live."

I was caught trying to cross back into American controlled territory. I was interrogated by British General Howe and when it was discovered that I was carrying incriminating documents General Howe ordered my execution for spying which was set for the next morning.
